This workshop focuses on the writing of the screenplay. The instructor will provide a bibliography of screenplays and books on the craft. Students should bring laptops to do in-class exercises. This workshop will consist of part lecture and part hands-on writing exercises. The instructor will also offer information on how to contact local filmmaking groups following the writing of the students' screenplays.
About the Instructor: Rob McCabe is a graduate student at the University of Tampa, working towards an MFA in Creative Writing and is working on a collection of short stories/novella for his thesis. He has had three staged readings of his short plays: one in Houston, Texas and the other two in St. Petersburg, Florida. He has written and performed two pieces at two Fringe festivals. While living in the metropolitan Detroit area in Michigan, he was also a full-time spoken word artist promoting literacy in schools, libraries, museums and storytelling festivals through the art of Storytelling and Storytelling Theatre. He has taught storytelling, playwriting and fiction writing programs as well as conducting storytelling workshops with adults and children. He also provides coaching and performance consultations. In April, 2015, two screenplays he wrote were turned into two short films--the films, Absolution and Fixated were both shown at the Muvico in St. Petersburg at the Suncoast Film Festival, an internationally recognized film festival in St. Petersburg, Florida.
