Quintet of the Americas at the Queens New Music Festival
This classical ensemble is made brand new with works including acoustic instruments of the woodwind quintet, bandoneon and piano, electronic interaction, computer as instrument, and visual enhancement with projections of photos of space taken from the Hubble telescope and a painting in real time. The program will be:
"The Stuff of Comets" by Dylan Glatthorn "Winter Music" by Adam Schoenberg "Espacial for woodwind quintet, bandoneon and piano" by Daniel Binelli World Premiere "Sfumato" by Yao Chen "Ambos mundos for woodwind quintet and computer" by Neil Rolnick "Mo Suo's Burial Ceremony" Xinyan Li "Kum-Ba-Ya Marcus" by Carl Maultsby "Short Winds" by Sean Friar "MultipleOness" by Matt Sullivan Members of Quintet of the Americas are Karla Moe, flute; Matt Sullivan, oboe; Nicholas Gallas, clarinet; Barbara Oldham, horn; and Maureen Strenge, bassoon. Founded in Bogotá, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet has specialized in bringing new music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe.
