The Nutcracker with Ballet Workshop - Tickets available at the door!!
This historic new staging of "The Nutcracker", produced by Port Angeles' own Ballet Workshop Productions, promises to be a holiday premiere that you do not want to miss, bringing together local ballet students, theatre performers, and guest dance artists from all over Washington State.
Set in the great depression of Clallam County in 1895, this original story follows the adventure of young Marie and her brother, Frank, who are given a magical gift of a Nutcracker by their wealthy godfather, business tycoon Gregers M. Lauridsen, at their family's Christmas Eve barn dance.
As the story opens it is late afternoon on the family estate, on the foothills of Hurricane Ridge, where Marie, Frank and the farm boy, James, are preparing for the arrival of their guests. Musicians, entertainers and family friends begin to arrive from all over town, bringing seasonal house-warming gifts from their baking ovens, fishing boats, and hunting trips. When midnight snow begins to fall on the mountains, and the festivities come to an end, Marie and Frank are taken on a journey with the Nutcracker Prince, as they dream of a fairytale land where Sugar Plums dance and lavender sparkles in every field.
Drawing its inspiration from life on the Peninsula at the turn of the Civil War era, this home-grown Nutcracker will capture your heart with its locally crafted costumes, and beautifully hand-painted backdrops of the Olympics and lavender fields of Sequim, that pay tribute to the rich history of Clallam County. This is an evening you will want to enjoy with your entire family, young and old, for years to come
