Mary Poppins
North East School of the Arts flies into its nineteenth season with the South Texas high school premiere of Disney's MARY POPPINS, showcasing the work of over two hundred student artists: a cast of eighty-eight performers, eighteen technicians, fifty-four visual artists and an orchestra of forty-four musicians. Based on the novels by P. L. Travers and transformed by Walt Disney into the beloved 1964 movie musical starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, MARY POPPINS mysteriously arrives at the home of the Banks family in 1910 London to become nanny to the children Jane and Michael, bringing with her a fantastical array of enchanted statues, living toys, talk shops and dancing chimney sweeps. The Las Vegas-based ZFX Flying Effects organization will provide the professional flying rig and technical training for NESA's production. ZFX has provided flying effects for clients as varied as The Goodman Theatre, Yale Repertory Theater, America's Got Talent, Warner Bros. Studios and MGM Grand Arena, to name a few. With scenic design by Karen L. Miller and associate designer Martin Gjoni of SRO Associates, flying by ZFX, and facility enhancement by Texas Scenic, NESA is presenting the most technically demanding production in its nearly twenty year history. MARY POPPINS made its theatrical premiere in London's West End in 2004, followed by its Broadway debut in 2006. The musical features many of the film's Academy Award winning songs written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, including Spoonful of Sugar, Let's Go Fly a Kite, Jolly Holiday, Chim Chim Cheree, Feed the Birds and Supercalifragilisticexpialidoscious. The stage play also features new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Performance dates are November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7:30 pm and November 8, 14, 15 at 2:30pm. All performances are at the Lee High School Theater. DATE/TIME: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7:30pm Sunday, November 8, 14, 15 at 2:30pm PLACE: Robert E.
