A Renaissance Christmas with the Festival Consort
The Festival Consort presents its beloved Renaissance Christmas concert on Sunday, January 3 at 3 PM, 2016, at the Church of the Incarnation, 550 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa CA 95401. This will be the Consort's thirty ninth year -- closing off the 2015 Christmas season. Soprano Carol Menke and countertenor Chris Fritzsche join director David Hogan Smith, Joanna Bramel Young, Alan Paul and Bob Cronin in a concert celebrating the Yuletide season. The Consort plays an impressive array of medieval and renaissance instruments, including a full matched consort of recorders, crumhorns and schreyerpfeifen, as well as shawms, curtals, guitar and sackbut. Traditional carols and works by some of the greatest medieval and renaissance composers will be on the program. Along with works by Praetorius, Arcadelt and Hassler, there will be three jubilant and majestic six part works by Victoria, Palestrina and Guerrero.
The Church of the Incarnation, built in 1875, is perfect venue for the Festival Consort. Built entirely of heart redwood, the church has very fine acoustic qualities that showcase the Consort's richly varied program. Some audience members come every year, making it a family tradition.
