Tales of Fated Love
The stories include The Story of the Black Ribbon, The Story of Whi Ku, The Story of Farut and Anoush and The Doctor's Godmother.
A group of English girls engage in the parlor game Bloody Mary. legend has it, that if one recites the incantations correctly, appealing to Queen Mary the 1st of England, one can see an image of the man whom they will marry standing behind them when looking into a mirror.
One of them sees the Image of a handsome young man, which carrys us in to The Story of the Black Ribbon, the first of our tales. One of the girls finds a book of Finish legends, and takes the role of Narrator for the Tale of Joukahain the Young Wizard, who challenges Vainamoinen, the great wizard of the north. Among the brick a brack are various items of Chinese origin, leading us into the story of Whi Ku, A successful young bureaucrat who questioned the God of Marriage about his future bride, not liking what he is told, he takes steps to change his fate. The next tale recounts. The Story of Farfut and his unrequited love for the Princes Anoush. At her bidding, he endeavors to build for her a grand palace, only to learn she regarded him as mere sport.
The final story is one of star crossed love set in Spain. The Angel of Death appears to a coarse but good hearted peasant. Not about her usual business, she informs him she wishes to be Godmother to his new born son. The boy grows into honorable manhood, and becomes a famous physician, with the help of his Godmother, who provides to him the knowledge of special potions, secrets to which no other mortal is privy. She has one stern rule. If she appears to him when attending a patient, that person is meant to die, and he must not use his knowledge to save them.
The story ends with one of the girls seeing the Angel of Death in the mirror. According to the legend, it means she will die before she marries, of course it's all just a silly game.
