The Execution of Mrs. Cotton
spit&vigor's staged reading of THE EXECUTION OF MRS. COTTON premieres at Standard Toykraft, presented by the Tank New play features the haunting music by C.W.K. played live.
THE EXECUTION OF MRS COTTON, loosely based on a willful misunderstanding of the historical context outlined in "Mary Ann Cotton: Britain's First Serial Killer" by David Wilson, is the story of the life and times of Elva Zona Heaster Cotton, a serial killer in the late 1800s. Serial killers prey on the most vulnerable victims accessible to them. This play deals with themes concerning the value of women's work, their art, and their voices, and explores how several working-class men could become vulnerable to a female serial killer, an artist in her own right, while the world around them rapidly industrializes.
From NYIT-award winning company members that produced IN VESTMENTS, acclaimed by the NYTimes as "wrenching and visually eloquent", is a ghost story about the strange life of an artist with the grotesque and macabre art form of serial murder by arsenic poisoning. Live musicians sing lyrics by Sara Fellini with musical arrangement by C.W.K.
