Mother of All Bootcamps & Scrimmages!
In association with our big sister team, Little City Rollergirls, we extend an invitation to skaters and referees new to roller derby!
This event has been developed for skaters in their first year of derby (from their assessment date) and new referees (or older zebras that just like to hang out with baby zebras). Skaters returning to the sport after an absence approved by their league can also participate if they have re-assessed. See below for more information about eligibility.
The all day event takes place at the Haywood County Fairgrounds in Waynesville, North Carolina. We will have two separate facilities available for training, both with polished concrete floors. Guest trainers and coaches will be presenting intermediate level skills focused on working together as a team, positions within the pack, using individual skills as a team, and setting up strategies. After a break for lunch, skaters will be divided into different teams for an afternoon of coached scrimmaging!
Training for refs will focus on basic skating skills and techniques needed to advance, rules discussions, networking with refs from across the region, and of course swapping stories from beyond the track edge. This is also geared towards growing and encouraging new refs but refs of any level are welcome. During the afternoon scrimmages refs will have the time to practice various positions and see some of the situations that come up on the track that don't make sense or as requested by participants. Trained NSO's and veteran derby folk will be available to assist throughout the day as well.
The morning bootcamp will be closed to spectators but the afternoon of scrimmages will be open to the public. Invite your family, friends, and of course your teammates to come support and cheer on the rising talent! Concessions will be available in the afternoon and we have plenty of seating available. The Haywood County Fairgrounds provide an alcohol free environment but if that disappoints you an after party will follow in the evening.
Participation in this event is $60 per skater, $40 per ref. All paying participants receive an event tee-shirt, water and light refreshments will be provided along with some printed information. Spectators are $5 per person, kids 12 and under are free. Leagues sending more than 10 participants can request a group rate which is nonrefundable. Coaches, trainers, NSO's, and refs that are leading this bootcamp are free and leagues can send one in-training coach/trainer with their coaches.
Registration and payment can be completed online, in person, or through the mail. Participants can pay online through our website until midnight, April 27th. After that date, participants can still register and pay until midnight on May 2nd. Instructions will be on our website in the event section.
