CHANDRA, BILE SISTER, NEW CHANCE, AND VIDEO NASTIES

1980. The musical bedlam of Lower East Side Manhattan. Out the ashes of the John Cale-backed post-punk quintet Model Citizens comes Chandra, a new wave/art-punk outfit not quite like any other band out. The frontwoman is Chandra Oppenheim, the precocious 12-year-old daughter of famed conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim. The band recorded one EP, made waves around the New York scene, toured the country, and disappeared back into the underground whence they came.

2015. The music world has seen little to nothing of Chandra in 35 years, but her Transportation EP has gained a cult-following, garnering several sought-after reissue pressings. On the heels of her grandiose new multimedia album and performance project A Slightly Better, Chandra is revisiting the songs of her youth, with backing from Toronto bizarro pop purveyors Bile Sister. They'll be joined by Toronto experimentalists New Chance and local a/v nightmare-weavers Video Nasties. DJs Jack Toft and Dan Capaldi will be mixing between sets.
