This concert on Friday is in the private home of Áine Doherty and Sam Keator in Tualatin, Oregon. 12 miles south of Portland 3/4 mile off of I-5. Please note that we do have a dog and a cat if that is a problem for you.
David Power
Teachers and Influences David took piping lessons with Tommy Kearney, Jimmy O'Brien-Moran, Willie Reynolds, Breandán Breathnach, Ronan Browne, MacDara MacDonncha and Peter Carberry. He was additionally influenced by Seamus Ennis and Tommy Reck. Competitions David won the Senior All-Ireland piping championship and the Oireachtas piping competition in 1992. He represented Ireland at the L`orient Interceltic Festival the following year. Early Band Membership He was a member of Liam Clancy's 'Fairweather Band' in the early 90's and belonged to the group 'Gorumna' who toured Europe and Asia later in the 90's. Tommy Kearney Recording He researched and produced a substantial recording and biography of Tommy Kearney which was released by Na Píobairí Uilleann under their Master Pipers series. Moving to the USA In 2003 he moved to the United States and played the pipes in an off-Broadway production of Roger Gillen's 'Love's Pure Light', recorded pipes and whistle music for the Irish Repertory Theatre's staging of 'The Field' and was a member of the cast of the 2005 Broadway production of Eugene O'Neill's 'A Touch of the Poet', starring Gabriel Byrne in which he directed, recorded and performed all music for the show. Solo Recordings His debut solo recording, My Love is in America was released on the Claddagh label in 2005 and was the subject of a number of radio interviews including RTE's arts program 'Rattlebag' in 2006. Claddagh released his second recording, Cuachín Ghleann Neifín on their Phaeton label in February 2007.
Masters of Tradition on Tour Following on from performances at the Masters of Tradition concert series in Bantry House, David played in the Sydney Opera House with Mairtín O'Connor, Seamie O'Dowd, Cathal Hayden, Iarla Ó'Lionard, Steve Cooney, Denis Cahill and Martin Hayes.
