Embarking on their first west coast tour, Horan, Connolly, and Novotny, is a high-energy traditional Irish trio blazing new trails in American-based Irish music. The trio features the acclaimed virtuosic fiddler player, Winifred Horan, a founding and current member of the legendary supergroup Solas, as well as lightning-hot button accordionist Johnny Connolly, a current member of the latest Solas lineup. West Coast-based guitarist, Cary Novotny, adds his propelling rhythms and inventive harmonies to the mix.
Born and raised in New York of Irish parents, Winifred Horan began playing music at an early age, first on the piano, which she learned from her father, an accomplished pianist and jazz trumpeter. His love for classical, jazz and traditional Irish Music was a great influence on Winifred and ultimately laid out a colourful and eclectic musical direction. She began fiddle and Irish dance lessons in the then bustling Irish scene in New York in the 1970's. Throughout these years she participated and competed in many fleadhs and competitions in the US and Ireland, winning the US National Dance Championships a record nine years in a row. At this time, she was also pursuing a path in classical music and ultimately won a scholarship to attend Mannes College of Music in Manhattan, as a teenager, for violin. She then went on to earn a degree in Music from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. This combination of both classical and traditional backgrounds helps to define the style that is so identifiable and associated with Winifred's playing. In great demand for live shows and as a studio musician, she has worked with many of the finest musicians on the Irish Music and contemporary folk scenes. She has played and recorded with Cherish the Ladies, Sharon Shannon, Declan O' Rourke, Belinda Carlisle, Mundy, Pierce Turner, Richard Shindell, Liz Carroll, most recently with Christy Moore on his new album "Where I Come From", and many more.

/// /// /// Winifred's meeting and ultimate collaboration with Seamus Egan saw the start of the Irish-American band SOLAS which has now enjoyed worldwide success for twenty years and established itself at the pinnacle of legendary traditional Irish bands due to its rousing live performances, timeless recordings and extraordinary musicianship. Winifred has released three solo albums, "Just one Wish", "The Pleasures of Home", and her recently released "Lost Girl Found" to great critical acclaim both in the U.S. and Ireland.
Johnny Connolly was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. He began playing when he was eight and by age 15 he was a regular feature around his hometown, performing with musicians sometimes twice his age. Johnny's dexterity on the accordion earned him a place with the established Celtic ensemble, Anam, at the age of seventeen. In 1996 Johnny seized an opportunity to bring his skills to America. In 2001 he signed with Green Linnet records and released his first album entitled "Bridgetown" named after his adopted hometown, Portland, Oregon. Over the last decade, Johnny has toured extensively nationally and internationally, performing at festivals, concerts, and schools with Kevin Burke, Lisa Ornstein, Bridgetown, Patrick Ourceau, The Chieftains, Casey Neill, and Tony Furtado. Recently Johnny has been touring as a member of internationally acclaimed Irish band Solas and will be featured on their next CD 'All These Years'.
Cary Novotny was born in South Dakota and later moved to Bowling Green Kentucky, where he began studying classical guitar and learning the music of the region, namely country, folk, and bluegrass music. After moving to the Northwest, Novotny earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Portland, and then began a career as a professional guitarist, singer and songwriter in the folk and popular music scene in the Portland and Seattle areas. In 1995, Novotny cofounded "Cul an Ti," which became a household name over the next 20 years in the Northwest with its hundreds of performances of lively traditional Irish tunes and its unique blend of Irish and popular songs. Novotny continues to maintain a busy schedule as a guitarist in the world of Celtic music and has recorded and performed with many other notable Irish musicians, including Kevin Burke, The Bridies, Johnny Connolly, Hanz Araki, Laurence Nugent, and the touring Irish dance show "Celtic Legends." Novotny also continues to write songs in the country and popular music genres.
Together, Horan, Connolly and Novotny promise to deliver an exciting and powerful mix of raw energy, heart, soul and passion in this live concert performance of traditional Irish music melodies in modern and compelling harmonic and rhythmic settings.
