JAZZ LATINO @ GALERIA WEST Music Concert Event
Image a cozy concert venue where, on the last Friday of each month you are surrounded by wonderful fine art as you enjoy an intimate concert experience with the best of Latin jazz from NYC and beyond. Teatro Si brings you this opportunity with the new monthly Jazz Latino @ Galeria West concert series. On Friday, October 30, 2015 at 7:30pm the accomplished jazz drummer Mauricio De Souza and his Bossa Brasil quartet take the stage at the unique Galeria West Art & Music Gallery, located at 111 Quimby Street in downtown Westfield, NJ.
For the past 11 years, MaurĂcio de Souza has been performing and directing his own groups.  Originally from Brasilia, Brasil, de Souza has settled in northern New Jersey.  A pupil of Joe Morello, de Souza easily transitions between straight ahead jazz and Brazilian jazz.                                                     As a band leader, de Souza has released two commercial albums and has performed at the prestigious Blue Note in NYC, the Whitney Museum, Saint Peter's Church, Jazz at Kitano Hotel, Garage Jazz Restaurant, NJPAC, Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Westfield Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival among many others.
De Souza's albums, "Here. There..." and "Different Directions" have achieved high critic and public acclaim. Both albums were covered in Jazz Week and were featured on WBGO, Sirius XM, Pandora, Music Choice, and numerous radio stations in the US, Canada, Brazil, Canary Islands, and Venezuela.                                                 De Souza has also been featured in numerous publications, including the cover of Hot House Jazz Magazine (and Different Directions was reviewed on "Winning Spins"), Jazz Times Magazine, Modern Drummer Magazine and Blog, New York City Jazz Record, Jazz Inside New York, Revista Gente, The Star Ledger and others.
Bossa Brasil performs standards of the Brazilian jazz repertoire.  The exciting, sophisticated, and pulsating arrangements include compositions by Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, Marcos Valle, Edu Lobo, Roberto Menescal, Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascoal, Ary Barroso, Pixinguinha, and Carlos Lyra to name a few.  The group performs instrumental music in a trio or quartet format.  Instrument configurations combine bass, drums, piano, vibraphone, guitar, trumpet, sax, flute, and clarinet.  For its performance at this Jazz Latino @ Galeria West concert series event, the group will feature Mauricio de Souza on drums, Audrey Welber on saxes and flute, Jerry Weir on vibraphone, and Gary Mazzaroppi on bass.
Tickets are priced at $20. Advance tickets are available online at  www.BrownPaperTickets.com (enter Jazz Latino @ Galeria West for event search). For reservations and more info call the Teatro Si box office at 908-301-9496 or purchase tickets in person at Galeria West in Westfield.
