Medieval and Spanish blues concert
In a much anticipated return, Claude Bourbon of France detours his tour of the east coast to bring to Rochester an evening of the most amazing Spanish and blues guitar. Bourbon is a guitarist's guitarist, delivering a magical and unsurpassed evening of mesmerizing music. This concert will be especially apropos in the gorgeous olde-world atmosphere of The Castle on Charles, which will enhance the experience that evening with a small menu of Spanish food and wine!
Bourbon's playing is firmly rooted in classical Spanish guitar and he can entertain a crowd for an evening on that alone, but what he does is add elements from a vast array of influences, east and west, ancient and modern. His finger picking is exquisite, lending his audience to often close their eyes, with a mesmerizing cascade of flowing notes.
Bourbon's range varies from a piece by blind Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo's famous 'Concierto de Aranjuez' to a Bolero to a foot stomping version of the old gospel classic You Don't Know What the Lord Told Me and back to something akin to The Gypsy Kings, with some improvisational guitar motifs expertly worked in everywhere. Most of Bourbon's music is acoustic, but during songs like his version of Summertime ('and the living is easy') the audience is introduced to his warm French accent mingled with the easy vocal style of Ry Cooder.
Bourbon, who now lives in Portsmouth, England, normally tours all across the UK and northern Europe, full time. In October he is tour across New England, New York and Canada. Those with advance tickets get priority seating with cabaret-style tables to comfortably enjoy Spanish tapas & Spanish wine! The Tavern opens at 6pm - show at 7pm.
