Radical Grace @ SLIFF
Radical Grace Rebecca Parrish, U.S., 2015, 77 min. Monday, Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m., Webster U./Moore Executive-produced by Susan Sarandon, "Radical Grace" follows three fearless nuns who risk their place in the Catholic Church to follow another higher calling: social justice. When the Vatican investigates and reprimands the sisters -- citing their "radical feminism" -- they become the spiritual and symbolic center of a struggle for the future of the Catholic Church. The women refuse to back down, instead challenging the patriarchal system and ultimately winning the hearts of the new pope and U.S. Catholics. Through their cross-country Nuns on the Bus tour, their selfless service to those on the margins, and their continuing struggle for Catholic women's religious equality, these sisters are transforming American politics -- and the Church itself. The RogerEbert.com website calls "Radical Grace" an "exhilarating portrait" and says it "easily ranks among the year's best films." With producer Nicole Bernardi-Reis. Shown with Once Upon a Kingdom (Raphael J. Dostie & Terence Chotard, Canada, 2014, 19 min., French): The aging sisters of Sainte-Jeanne-D'Arc move from their century-old building in the absence of committed successors.
