Making Elephant Toothpaste!
In this workshop we seek out to create "elephant toothpaste". It is a dramatic chemistry demonstration which produces copious amounts of steaming foam that one might say looks like the toothpaste an elephant might use. We seek to make our own "elephant toothpaste" and explore the science behind decomposition, catalysis and exothermic reactions.
Scientists who join us in this workshop will learn how to create their own elephant toothpaste and will walk away with their own recipe for making it at home! We will also delve into the science behind the reaction and find out how it works!
The content of this lecture is comparable to a high school/entry college level general chemistry. The demonstration portion of this workshop involves chemicals and we recommend that children under 12 years of age are assisted by a parent.
