Scottish Legacy Night (MVFS Metro Artists Concert)
Scottish music and musicians just cant be topped, from the skirl of the highland pipes sending a shiver through the spine, to the perfectly attuned turn of a phrase of such songwriters as Robert Burns, Dick Gaughan, or Dougie McLean, just to name a few.  This years Metro Artist Concert will focus on the Scottish/ Cape Breton musical legacy.   Born in historical Paisley on the west coast of Scotland, folksinger Hazel Whyte's first musical influence was her mother's nightly lullaby. As a child, Hazel was a member of competition choirs and as a young adult she took up the guitar and soon found herself singing in the musical duo Traprain. Hazel has appeared in various folk clubs throughout Scotland and Europe as well as in Asia, Australia and the Virgin Islands. She has performed across the United States and now lives in Kansas City. As a singer/songwriter, Hazel combines Scottish ballads and traditional Celtic music with contemporary folk. She says, "Scottish music... can thrill the soul, delight the senses, tell tales of disaster and intrigue, speak of unrequited love or lands that are lost now. Scottish music is as unique and diverse as the people and land that gave it birth.".

We will also be delighted to hear Bill Morris, a dynamic singer who nowadays can be heard performing at the Main Street Coffee House in Independence, MO.  He has been part of several bands in the region, including Emerald Skye and Gabriels Gate. He accompanies his rich baritone vocals with his own 6-string guitar accompaniment, playing  a 2002 Taylor 510 Limited Edition with a Martin style neck.  It provides a ferocious low-range, ideal for celtic music.

No Scottish themed event would be complete without the stirring music of highland pipers and dancers. The Kansas City St. Andrews Highland Dancers will perform traditional Scottish dances in costume, accompanied by highland pipers Iaian J. McKee and David McNally.
