Evening @ the Barn: The Jack Oakie Foundation Presents "The Great Dictator"
For our November Evening @ the Barn, The Jack Oakie Foundation will be presenting a special screening of the classic 1940 film "The Great Dictator" starring Charlie Chaplin, Jack Oakie, Billy Gilbert & Paulette Goddard. The Jack Oakie Foundation underwrites lectures on comedy and provides scholarships for deserving film and theater students at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country.
This cinematic masterpiece is an American satirical political comedy-drama starring, written, produced, scored, and directed by Chaplin. Having been the only Hollywood film-maker to continue to make silent films well into the period of sound films, this was Chaplin's first true talking picture.
We will be showing the restored version of this film on Blu-Ray, courtesy of the Criterion Collection. Run time is approximately two hours. Memorabilia from the film will be on display in our front gallery. Also we are excited to announce that legendary actor Norman Lloyd (pending availability) will be joining us to discuss working with Chaplin prior to the film. As always we'll offer our famous $1 raffle, plus refreshments and more! It's sure to be a sell-out so please purchase your tickets online to avoid disappointment!
