About Our Presenter:
Bruce Fink is a practicing Lacanian psychoanalyst and analytic supervisor. He trained as a psychoanalyst in France for seven years with and is now a member of the psychoanalytic institute Jacques Lacan created shortly before his death, the École de la Cause freudienne in Paris, and obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Psychoanalysis at the University of Paris VIII (Saint-Denis). He served as Professor of Psychology from 1993 to 2013 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is currently an affiliated member of the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center.
Dr. Fink is the author of six books on Lacan (which have been translated into many different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, German, Polish, Croatian, Greek, Turkish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese):

First Session: November 17th 7-9 pm
Topic: Introduction: The Goals of Psychoanalysis and Analytic Technique
Course Objectives : By the end of the session participants will be able to:
1) Understand a Lacanian approach to listening, involving "free-floating" instead of "me-centered" attention, and with an ear more to what does not make sense than to what does.
2) Grasp Lacan's distinction between the imaginary and the symbolic, as it plays a role in minute-by-minute clinical work and in diagnosis.
Second Session: December 15th 7-9 pm
Topic: Interpretation and Transference
Course Objectives: By the end of the session participants will be able to:
1) Comprehend through clinical examples what it means to follow and punctuate a patient's speech "to the letter."
2) Understand and apply the goals of Lacanian interpretation to clinical material.
