Teacher's Professional Development
Discover how contemporary artists reinvent traditional sculptural techniques and craft materials during this day-long professional development workshop.
MAD's artist educators will lead participating teachers on tours of the exhibitions Wendell Castle Remastered and Japanese Kōgei | Future Forward.
Ronald T. Labaco, MAD's Marcia Doctor Senior Curator, will give a keynote speech that highlights themes and illustrates how contemporary artists from both exhibitions honor craft materials and traditional approaches while pushing their practices to address ideas about the future.
Additionally, an afternoon workshop will explore handcrafting clay forms and incorporate relevant themes from the exhibitions. This hands-on workshop will also discuss contemporary ideas using traditional materials and methods and illustrate ways of experimenting within school curricula.
