Costuming for Burlesque: Skirts
Costume Construction: Skirts with Kitty Irreverent
The shimmy skirt, the ubiquitous and often quintessential costume piece for the classic (and not so classic) showgirl. These beautiful skirts are simple to make, easily to build upon and the variations are endless. In this workshop class students will learn basic techniques for constructing panel skirts, including simple gathering techniques and more complex circle and semi circle draft techniques. Students will also learn methods of creating belts and waistbands for their skirts, as well simple methods for making tear away panels and easily removable belts. Students are encouraged to bring works in progress for one on one help, as well as supplies and or sample designs and inspirations.
About Kitty:
The 21st Century Hubba Hubba Girl
Though she proudly calls Austin home today, Kitty Irreverent got her start in burlesque back in 2003 as one of the founding members of the neo-burlesque revolution in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over the last decade Kitty has honed her skills as a costume maker, performer and most notably as a producer. While Kitty's production credits include numerous shows large and small she is best known as the Executive Producer of the Southwest Burlesque Showcase, which she has helmed for the last decade.
In 2013 Kitty accepted an invitation to join the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender production crew, and served as co-producer of the Sunday Night Icons and All Stars show. In 2014 she assumed her current role as producer of the Tournament of Tease Competition.
Today Kitty works with TXBF production coordinating vendors and advertising. She is honored to be teaching her first classes at Austin Burlesque Academy.
