Pizza Seminar: Forest Edibles
One of the best parts of having woods on your property is enjoying the variety of native plants that yield delicious, edible berries. Some examples are salmonberry, huckleberry, black cap raspberry, trailing blackberry, salal, Oregon grape, and thimbleberry. Jim Freed, WSU Extension Special Forest Products Specialist, will discuss how to identify edible (and non-edible) berries. You'll also learn about the growing conditions that produce the best crops; how to salvage native plants from natural growing sites; care and feeding of these plants in domestic conditions; and developing new plants from cuttings, seeds, and root division.
