Gathering the Magic
GATHERING THE MAGIC is a 90 minute solo performance where magician and storyteller Nelson Lugo, combines slice-of-life storytelling with sophisticated stage magic. In the style of NPR's The Moth, combined with classic turn-of-the-century parlor magic, Nelson Lugo presents sleight-of-hand in a whole new way. He lures his audience into an intricate web of pop cultural influences and valuable life lessons that is greater than the sum of its parts.
"...stories are captivating, and he has excised so much of what some people hate about magic that I strongly urge non-fans to see this unique performance." stagebuddy.com
"Mr. Lugo's enthusiasm and love for his craft gives us, the audience, a deeper appreciation of why we love magic tricks so much." nytheaternow.com
"Lugo is a fine raconteur and eminently likeable... Tales are told with excellent pacing and focus; humor emerges deftly." theaterpizzazz.com
Descended from a genuine Santeria, Nelson Lugo has evolved his singular magical style for more than 15 years, showcasing classic prestidigitation with a wink and a nod to the nerd culture that has shaped him. GATHERING THE MAGIC is in its essence a love story which asks if there can be truth in deception, for it's not always so important HOW a trick is done, but WHY.
Written / Performed by Nelson Lugo Directed by Paige Blansfield

For those of you who are parents (or caretakers) to burgeoning magic fans - please consider this show to be PG13. There's nothing said or done that's sexually charged or grossly inappropriate. However, please know that this show is not balloon animals or bunny rabbits and there is the use of adult language.
Gathering The Magic is more like an episode of This American Life with magic. If your child can sit through any show on NPR, then I would humbly like to think that my show would be perfect for them.
