Co-LAB 4
"What is so fantastic about Coriolis Dance Collective is their ability to constantly change. Each performance is a new experience, each work they present a landmark in their development as artists, performers, and as a group." Kristen Legg, SeattleDances.
Co-LAB 4 is no exception. Coriolis has not only brought back season-two choreographer Rainbow Fletcher (Deciduous Urge, 2010) to create new work but has joined forces with her entire company, The Offshore Project. Rainbow Fletcher is the face of and brains behind the contemporary-infused cabaret performance group the Can Can Castaways, and is also Co-artistic Director of The Offshore Project with Ezra Dickinson. This alternative creative forum has earned its own acclaim as a finalist in last year's A.W.A.R.D. Show, curated by The Joyce Theater and hosted by On the Boards.
Rainbow has choreographed a new work solely for Coriolis, and Rainbow and Ezra have collaborated together choreographically on two new premieres. Rainbow's new work for Coriolis dancers Christin Call, Natascha Greenwalt Murphy, Andrea Larreta, and Marissa Quimby is a throwback homage to wizened cabaret performers whose mystique and sensuality have, over the addling years, worn them out. Rainbow and Ezra will also perform a duet created together showcasing Rainbow's acrobatic, contortionist agility and Ezra's maverick-like mannerisms and nuances. The ultimate collaboration is an ensemble work combining Coriolis and Offshore (including dancers John Betchtel and Benjamin Maestes III). Inspired by the complexity of characters from the film Synechdoche, New York the piece is arranged as a series of vignettes with distinct narrative interactions.
Finally, it wouldn't be Co-LAB without some stellar artistic collaborations. Dylan Rieck, who previously worked with Offshore for their A.W.A.R.D. Show performance, has composed original music for all three premieres. He and his accumulated band for this performance will join the dancers in a live performance on both evenings! In addition, costumes by designer Danielle Blackwell have been created for the ensemble piece.
