Recently featured on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion, the Seattle-based duo Squirrel Butter (Charmaine Slaven, Charlie Beck) performs traditional and original music influenced by Appalachian, early country, jugband, and blues artists from the late 1800's through the 1950's. Charlie (banjo, fiddle, steel guitar, vocals) and Charmaine (guitar, fiddle, vocals, feet - !!) are also both members of The Tallboys. Charmaine is well-known among the traditional music scene for her unique ability to play guitar or fiddle as she performs flat-foot or buckdancing steps.
"Squirrel Butter's sound is authentic, raw, and true to tradition. Give them a listen and you'll be amazed that such full sounds can come from two lovebirds who only play with what they can carry on their backs from one gig to the next. " -Devon Leger, Hearth Music
The duo recently released a new (2015) album, Chestnuts! For samples of the album or to purchase downloads, go to: http://www.squirrelbutter.com/Squirrel_Butter/Listen_Buy.html
Past concerts at the BoatShop have all sold out, so don't wait too long to get your tickets for this special venue, the last public example of Gig Harbor's working waterfront and maritime heritage.
