Children's Animation Workshop at Cinema Arts Centre
THREE SESSIONS - SATURDAY, MAY 26, JUNE 2, & JUNE 9 10:30am - 12 Noon Course Tuition: $75
Teacher: MICHELLE CIARDULLI LI Motion Picture Arts Center and Museum Suitable for Ages 5-13
May 26 The first session is about line drawing animation. We show a short film about animation and then the children, grades 3 through 9th, work on drawing directly on 16mm film, 35mm film, and trace single frame cells from light boxes. The films are shown on a 16mm projector and a portable 35mm projector. The cell tracings are shown on a computer program from a laptop. All the equipment and materials are provided by our organization.
June 2 The second session teaches stop-animation. We show a clip from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas and a clip from the 1933 film, King Kong. We then have the children shoot a scene of stop-motion animation using poseable figures. The finished video is shown after the session.
June 9 The third session teaches movie special effects using LIMPACM's support staff and green screen chroma key set, including video cameras, special effects video mixers, monitors, movie lights and green screen. The children see themselves flying on a magic carpet over Long Island, being a drum major conducting a toy band, or shopping at a toy size farmer's market on a train set. We show a clip of various movies and the behind the scenes look at how green screen effects are used in movies.
