CREATION Project
The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas through a panel of professional artists and managers selected two participants representing a range of artistic performing arts disciplines; performance poet Imani Sims and choreographer Danny Long to be the 2011-2012 CREATION Project artists.
Sims and Long will work for three months on creating new works, going through a professional development program and will work with master artist and director Valerie Curtis-Newton.
The purpose of the CREATION Project is to support the creation of new work for Seattle's Black performing artists in the formative stages of their careers; to use the artistic process as the platform for learning critical professional development skills; and to support distinctive Black artistic voices.
The CD Forum is committed to nurturing and presenting Black artists in King and Pierce Counties that represent the diversity and quality of contemporary Black arts and culture. This is our third round of artists. Over the years, this program has recognized some of our community's diverse and great talents, as well as supported them through professional development opportunities and mentorship.
The CREATION Project Showcase will also featured is an excerpt of WANTED, a one-woman performance directed by Curtis-Newton, written and performed by New York artist Shontina Vernon.
