10th Anniversary TEADAWORKS New Performance Festival
"Grandma's Hands" by Carla Vega A touching tale of one woman's humble beginnings in Puerto Rico and the journey of her life in San Francisco. Weaved with memories, stories, poetry and dance, this exploration of ancestry is inspired by Carla's late grandmother, honoring the creativity and courage in all women. Carla Vega is an LA based, multi-disciplinary performing artist with over 15 years of professional acting experience on the stage and screen, dedicated to using her talents to celebrate humanity and reflect diversity.
"Following Shadows" By Jumakae Jumakae will explore different philosophies in love and life based on the stories of her mother and grandmother. While her grandmother defied the traditional marriage system by choosing to marry for love, her mother made the decision to leave the small village in pursuit of the American dream and marry for status June Marisa Kaewsith aka JUMAKAE is a Thai-American artist and community organizer based in Long Beach, CA.
"Returning to Maiz" by Tannia Esparza Tannia brings to life intergenerational storytelling through the ritual of cooking and draws from Aztec and Mayan mythology, to reclaim, reimagine, and offer ceremony to the origin of Xicana creation stories-corn. Tannia Esparza is a Queer Xicana dreamer, runner, and lover of all things living, who believes in theatre's power to heal trauma and initiate community dialogue.
