Climate Refugees film screening w/ local environmental panel discussion
Climate Refugees-Environmental Film Festival
w/ local environmental panel Q&A after film
Dir: Michael P. Nash / 2010 / US / 95 min / High Definition Digital
While An Inconvenient Truth was the first documentary to put the crisis of climate change front and center in the world's consciousness, Climate Refugees is the next step a film that unflinchingly captures the human cost of the environmental changes we are experiencing across the planet. As you might suspect, the people most immediately impacted by changing rainfall patterns, more extreme hurricanes and other tropical storms, and rising sea levels are those already living very close to the bone, who often only just manage to survive. What can they do when they can no longer "just survive" where they are? The answer is as old as humanity itself they must leave and go somewhere else. But in our increasingly fenced-off and border security-obsessed world, where is that "somewhere else"? And what does their forced migration mean for those of us not yet impacted by climate change to the same magnitude? An Official Selection of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, Climate Refugees is a must-see wake up call that is sure to spark conversation, debate, soul-searching, and (hopefully) action.
