Kim Nalley - San Francisco's Best Jazz & Blues Vocalist Award
"GOD, CAN THIS WOMAN SING! It's as if a vocalist from the great post-war blues and jazz combos had been transported to the end of the century." David Feld- Blues Access Magazine
"Nalley's singing is one of the best things that have happened on the Bay Area's musical scene in years . . .. her captivating personality draws listeners into her performance. She doesn't just stand there at the mike and sing, she strolls. Best Singer, Any Style, I've heard in years! -Phil Elwood San Francisco Examiner
If you are into jazz, blues and R&B and even if you are not,- consider giving the CD Need My Sugar a listen to hear what this gifted singer is capable of producing. But be sure to check her out live- Nalley knows how to work a room and leave her grateful audience spellbound. - Matt Kramer Pacific Sun
Kim Nalley's spirit and concept is full of sass, skill and authority. - Yoshi Kato Downbeat
KIM, UNA PRIMADONNA DALLA VOCE PROFONDA! She is like Jessica Rabbit and Louis Armstrong at the same time her voice gives you goosebumps. Last year the darlings of the festival were Roy Hargrove and Gary Brown, this year it is the splendid voice of Kim Nalley. While waiting for the arrival of Charlie Haden, Kim Nalley has been nominated this festivals star . . . the public is crazy for her. Giorgio Santeria - Il Corriere Dell Umbria, Italy
Kim Nalley topped the success of her 2003 CD, Need My Sugar, with this year's astounding She Put a Spell on Me, her powerful, heartfelt and hugely entertaining tribute to the great Nina Simone, which was shortlisted for the Grammy. SFStation gave the CD 4 stars, saying, "Nalley shows off her soaring, sultry vocals as she powers through an appropriately eclectic set of jazz, blues, showtunes and folk . . . . Invariably, her bold voice and impressive range will inspire comparisons to the likes of Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald, but it's a tribute to Nalley that she distinguishes herself as a unique talent. . . ."
No secret to the music world at large, Kim Nalley's raw captivating perfromances have garnered numerous rave reviews and encores at the most prestigious jazz festivals and jazz clubs throughout the world performing with heavyweights from David Fathead Newman, James Williams, Jimmy McGriff and Billy Higgins to Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony.
Nalley combines a lithe, beautiful sound and compelling sense of swing with just enough old-school razzle dazzle to create an instant and genuine rapport with her audience. Expect a swinging evening of standards in the tradition of Billie Holiday, Joe Williams, Ella Fitzgerald and, yes, Nina Simone, from a wonderful songstress and a great entertainer.
Nalley will be joined for these dates by an ensemble of terrific Bay Area talent, including pianist Tammy Hall, guitarist Josh Workman, bassist Michael Zisman and drummer Kent Bryson.
