Tony Monaco Trio - A formidable talent on Hammond B3 organ
"Listen to Tony Monaco play the celebrated Hammond B3 organ. He swings like mad, solos like hell, and locks into soulful, vibrant grooves. Either of his two CDs [shows] that Monaco, while unheralded, is one of those few who can really make [the Hammond B3] talk." All About Jazz
And it gets better! Tony Monaco's 3-night residence at Pearl's will feature famed fretmaster master Bruce Forman, one of the world's greatest practitioners of tasteful, high-test bebop guitar. Forman also stars on Monaco's brand new, highly rated CD, East to West.
One of the greatest honors in a Jazz Musician's life is to score well in the Downbeat Magazine critics and readers polls. In 2003 and 2005, Tony picked up a healthy number of votes in both, and in January 2006, he was also scored in the Jazztimes Magazine readers poll.
Monaco's budding musical aspirations got a boost when, at the age of 16, he received an encouraging phone call from jazz organ legend Jimmy Smith. When Monaco was twenty, Smith invited the young organist to come play with him at his club in Los Angeles.
In 2001, Monaco met and was befriended by another organ star, Joey DeFrancesco, who offered to produce a Tony Monaco CD. The resulting work, Burning' Grooves, gained Monaco international attention.
Since that time, Monaco has continued building himself a name as one of the jazz world's foremost Hammond B3 man. Reviewing East to West, writer John Gilbert noted, "Grooving and swinging is the byword here," saying of the recording, "Infectious jazz and superb playing make this album well worth the price of admission."
That's what we're saying, too.
Stylish local drummer Ron Marabuto rounds out a great trio. Swing yourself into Pearl's and get in on the fun.
