Stephane Wrembel
He's been called "a revelation" by Rolling Stone. Woody Allen recruited him to score the theme to the 2012 Academy Award-winning film Midnight in Paris, and he performed live during the 2012 Oscar's telecast.

To say that French-born guitarist/composer Stephane Wrembelwho learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countrysidehas already had a remarkable career would be an understatement. One can't listen to Wrembel's music without thinking of the most famous Gypsy musician of them all, Django Reinhardt. "I listened to my first Django record, as a musician, when I was 19 or 20  and I thought it was completely magic," Wrembel says. "I heard notes that I never heard before. There was a complete, different, hidden language. And this is their way of communicating; it's a very subtle way, and a very poetic way, and a very spiritual way to communicate with each other with music."

This virtuoso, who is now Brooklyn-based, has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music. He will be accompanied by his band for this special weekend.

Friday night will be a history of the music of Django Reinhardt. 1934-1939: This range of time is called the first period. This is where the signature sound of the quintet, The Hot Club Of France, was crafted. This is a time period when "Minor Swing" and other similar songs were composed. 5 years of magic! 1940-1946: The second period. The one that gave birth to Django's most famous composition "Nuages". During this show, we will discuss the war times, and its influence on Django's music.  During this time, he developed a more impressionistic style. 1946-1953: The last period. Influenced by Bebop and American Jazz, Django produced some of his hottest material during this time!

Saturday night will be Stephane's original compositions, some of which is influenced by Django and all of which just come from Stephane's fertile mind and magic hands.

The Saturday Guitar workshop with Stephane, "Django Rhinehardt Jazz Guitar Technique" will run from 3:30 til 5:30. This is rare opportunity to learn from a master.
