A Meal for Two: You and Your Microbes
Did you know the microbial community living in our intestines weighs as much as our brain, and that this community appears to influence all aspects of health? Come learn about your gut microbes, and how to feed them, through an interactive cooking class! Students will gain knowledge on the human gut microbiota, the effect of diet on these microbes, and implications for health through a brief lecture. The focus will primarily be on prebiotics: undigested dietary components that promote the growth or activity of certain gut microbes, thereby improving health. Students will then learn to prepare a nutritious meal, while keeping in mind the effect of the ingredients on their gut residents. Vegan and gluten-free. Fee: $10 (flexible- contact instructor for sliding scale).
