Lynn Tetenbaum and Katherine Heater play Marais and Forqueray
LYNN TETENBAUM, viola da gamba, and KATHERINE HEATER, harpsichord "L'Ange et le Diable" - music of Marin Marais and Forqueray
Marais and Forqueray; together they dominate French music for the viol, the most succulent chamber repertoire of the Bourbon court. Yet, they disliked each other, and were so different as to earn the nicknames "The Angel" and "The Devil". Everyone loved Marais, he had 19 children and was charming. Forqueray had one son, (whom he disowned and had imprisoned and banished from the country on a fabricated charge) and while his compositions were amazing and his playing was fabulous, his personality was famously unpleasant.
Their music is as different as cream and cognac. But what a great combination for a dessert or a concert!
