James Morrow introduces himself to the greater Boston dance community with an evening of works revolving around themes of performance and ability, patriarchal culture's conditioning over men and what it means to be male, and the convergence of public and private reality. Morrow has also asked friends Jen Polins, Meghan Mclyman, Present Day Dance Theatre, and Rozann Kruas to choreograph works and give their own perspectives.
Coming from an urban background, Morrow yearns to see the classical vocabulary prevalent in concert dance integrated into the hip-hop culture with which he is submerged. His movement has become a fusion of modern, contemporary, and urban dance styles. Collaborations with wheel chair dancer Kris Lenzo and multi-generational dance troupe Across The Ages Dance Theater makes for a mélange of movement that Boston has yet to experience.
Morrow has also asked friends in the community to join the event. Performing in the show are Meghan McLyman and Kristen Duffy Young in their latest work "Growing Pains." "Growing Pains" is an honest and personal exploration of the joy, pain, isolation, laughter, and chaos of modern motherhood as transcribed through the body.
"The Longest Marathon" will be performed by Rozann Kraus which is in response to the Boston Marathon Bombing. The piece has been reviewed as "powerful and uplifting."
