Cocktail Party and Poetry Slam
As part of its ongoing celebration of National Poetry Month, on Saturday, April 21st, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Academy of American Poets will host a poetry and cocktail "slam" at Back Forty in the East Village. Seven drink masters from some of New York's best cocktail-oriented bars and restaurants (e.g. Ward III, Clover Club, The Beagle, and Back Forty and Back Forty West, of course) will mix, shake and pour libations inspired by their favorite poems. Each poem will then be read aloud by Bob Holman of the Bowery Poetry Club, cocktail in hand. Back Forty chef Michael Laarhoven will also prepare a menu of bites, including Burger Sliders, Flat Bread with Almond Tahini, Fried Squid with a Buttermilk-Paprika Aioli, Grilled Bread with a Stinging Nettle Pesto & Golden beets, Whipped Goat Feta & Red Pepper Urfa Spread on House-Made Crackers, & Mini English Muffins with Ham, Quail Egg & Cabot Clothbound Cheddar.
The ticket price is $50 for purchases made before April 16th and includes all food and beverages but excludes tax and gratuity bringing the total to $64.44 ($3.24 Brown Paper Tickets charge not included). After the 16th, tickets will cost $55 plus tax, gratuity and Brown Paper Ticket charge. For more information visit www.poets.org/backforty.
