Victorian Hand Sewing Class - NYC 19th Century Extravaganza
Limited to fifteen attendees, this class covers antique hand-stitching techniques that were used in the construction of clothing before the advent of the sewing machine in 1854 (and continued to be used in some cases well into the 20th century). Stitches will be demonstrated by members of the NYNCS Victorian Parlorcrafts Circle, and guests will receive supplies so that they can follow along and take home examples of the stitches. Attendees will receive written instructions and a bibliography of first person-sources to do further research on their own.
