Don Pasquale & His Trophy Wife 5/22/12
Underworld Productions Opera presents "Don Pasquale & His Trophy Wife" (Donizetti's Don Pasquale), Tuesday, May 22 at 6pm at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (and Wednesday and Thursday, May 23 and 24, at Abigail Adams Smith Auditorium).
Don Pasquale is re-envisioned, not as an elderly bachelor, but as a married man who would throw over his aging Signora and make the beautiful, much younger Norina his "trophy wife". As honored guests, you will be served wine and refreshments and invited to behave like snooping house guests, following the action into various spaces including verdant courtyards for the serenade scene.
The lead singers will be Amelia Watkins, soprano (Norina); Nils Neubert, tenor (Ernesto); Matthew Singer, baritone (Malatesta); Peter Castaldi, baritone (Don Pasquale); and Juliana Valente/Lauren Alfano (Notary). Lighting designer is Kia Rogers and stage director is Gina Crusco.
The opera will be performed with piano accompaniment on May 22 and limited to 50 guests at Casa Italiana, allowing the audience to intimately connect with the domestic drama. This performance is available by reservation only; no tickets are available at the door.
Underworld Productions Opera has been recognized for innovation and excellence by Musical America's "Year in Music 2009," Opera News, The New York Times, and in the blogosphere (Madison Opera blog: "This is genius!").
"Music that is first rate and with performances which could be put in any of our important opera houses" -- Opera L blog.
