Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday) featuring an eclectic mix of comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. The show has been taking place for the past 6 years at the Mission District's El Rio.
This month features an all-star line up: Mark Pitta, Zahra Noorbakhsh, Abhay Nadkarni, Kelly O'Kelly, and Lisa Geduldig.
Mark Pitta has appeared on The Tonight Show with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon saying on his new Tonight Show "I love Mark Pitta!" For the past 10 years, Mark ran the highly popular Tuesday night comedy showcase at The 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley where veteran comics like Dana Carvey, the late Robin Williams, and Richard Lewis have been known to stop by. Mark was the host of Totally Hidden Video for the FOX network, playing different characters in hidden camera situations and then hosted Friday Night Videos for NBC. He appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, The A-List, Dr. Katz, and Make Me Laugh. For five years, he was the host/entertainment reporter on Mornings on 2 on KTVU-TV, bringing his unique comic expertise to the man on the street format with his original approach to interviewing newsmakers, movie stars, and everyday folk. Mark has opened for Chris Issak, Celene Dion, Vanessa Williams, Paul Anka, Kenny Rogers, Olivia Newton John, Smokey Robinson, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Rick Springfield. He is in high demand in clubs, colleges, and cruise ships (the good kind). www.MarkPitta.com
Zahra Noorbakhsh is a feminist, satirist, Iranian American comedian and contributor to the NY Times featured anthology, "Love Inshallah: The Secret Love Lives of American Muslim Women." The New Yorker Magazine dubbed her one-woman show "All Atheists Are Muslim" a highlight of the International New York City Fringe Theater Festival. When not on tour, Zahra enjoys directing and developing solo performances in her own workshop at the San Francisco Writer's Grotto, where she also teaches courses in comedy writing. www.zahracomedy.com
Abhay Nadkarni moved from South-India to South Central Los Angeles for a graduate degree in 2005. Dodging bullets en-route to grad school armed him with plenty of stories, and stand up was his only catharsis for combating culture shock. His act is an eclectic mix of his experience as an Indian immigrant in the US. He recently performed at the Ventura Comedy Festival and was featured in the Best of the Fest at the Burbank Comedy Festival in 2014. In January, he was featured as part of SF Sketchfest 2015 and was at the Burbank Comedy Festival in August. www.ComedianAbhay.com
