Love Marriage in Kabul
This is a fascinating look at Afghanistan life, beyond the evening news. Mahboba Rawi is a strong-willed Afghan-Australian woman who has dedicated her life to helping homeless orphans and widows. She is close to Abdul, an orphan grown to adulthood who works at the orphanage. Abdul is in love with Fatemeh, but her hard-nosed father demands a large dowry and he plans to marry his daughter off to anyone who can pay it. Devastated, Abdul hopes Mahboba will help negotiate his marriage to Fatemeh. And so their odyssey to raise the dowry money begins. Fatemeh's father then makes a second demand that Mahboba find a wife for his son. We follow the ups and downs of the search for money and/or a bride as Abdul and Fatemeh wait and wait. Will love conquer all?
