Trashion Fashion Show
Make Art Not Trash
The 2nd Annual Trashion Fashion Show presented by the XL Center. Come celebrate Earth Day in style on Saturday, April 21st from 7-10 pm, at ArtSpace in downtown Hartford, with an environmentally conscience community event featuring a recycling inspired fashion show set to live music. This is a collaborated event with Evergreen Design Co. will bring like-minded people together to celebrate Earth Day and with a common theme of Make Art Not Trash. All proceeds go to support Evergreen Design Co. & The Sustainable Farm School in Simsbury, CT.
Attendees are recommended to arrive early to check out the eco-friendly vendors, who will have goods available for sale as well as local earth friendly groups. Learn how to compost, recycle, upcycle, repurpose old items and how to plant seeds. Evergreen Design Project will be giving away vegetable seedlings as part of their great garden project and will be hosting a raffle with earth friendly items. Doors open at 6:30 pm; tickets are suggested $15 in advance or at the door. Tickets are available though brown paper bag tickets. ArtSpace is located at 555 Asylum Street, Hartford.
The Trashion Show begins at 7:45 pm and will be emceed by Hartford's fashion guru Debbie Allen Wright of Project Closet. The runway is set to live fusion music from local musical guests The Little Ugly. There will be a yoga asana demonstration, beginning at 7 pm, sponsored and organized by Hartford's Downtown Yoga and DTY's owner TJ Clynch will talk about Hartford's first Green Cycle. Installation design is by Artspace resident artist Ethan Boisvert with help of volunteers from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. There will be art featured on the walls made from used and recycled materials.
The "Trashion" are garments made from consumer waste, worn by models and dancers. Materials including newspapers, plastic bags, paper goods, books, old clothing, soda cans, straws and mirrors will be featured. The designers and artists are students, professionals and novices from the Hartford country, Litchfield country and Boston, MA. There will be a Question & Answer session with the artists & designers after the show.
