IN THE SPIRIT OF PETER KOWALD BENEFIT for AFA
New York, NY - On Monday April 2, 2012, Arts for Art will hold a benefit concert for our music series in memory of Peter Kowald - a great musician, a great bass player and a wonderful friend. He was one of the founders of FMP and the German free jazz musicians movement. In the '80s, he was the chief organizer of the Sound Unity Festivals and when AFA began the Vision Festival, he was a regular participant, who also helped out by making and serving sandwiches in the festival's makeshift kitchen. To honor him there will be improvisations with different musicians in varying combinations. Some of these artists collaborated with Peter Kowald during his life. Others might have.
Featuring an All-Star Cast performing in different combinations including: William Parker, John Hebert bass Amir ElSaffar - trp / Vincent Chancey - french horn / Masahiko Kono - trombone Tony Malaby, Joe McPhee - sax Miya Masaoka - koto / Tor Snyder - gtr / Jean Cook - violin Fay Victor - voice / Patricia Nicholson - words, movement Andrew Cyrille, Gerald Cleaver - drums
