Gary Ogan in Concert with Dave Captein and special guest Jack Charles
Gary Ogan returns for a second intimate bi-monthly concert, this time with bassist Dave Captein and special guest Jack Charles, former lead guitarist for Quarterflash and Sand.
Tuesday, May 8 7:00pm O'Connor's Vault 7850 S.W. Capitol Hwy. Portland, Oregon 97219 503.244.1690
Tickets $10 advance from brownpapertickets.com or $12 at the door On the heels of releasing last year's ambitious, self-produced solo project, Sound Ground, on which he played and sang all parts, the longtime Portlander, 70's Elektra recording artist, and 2008 Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee, Gary Ogan begins a new, bi-monthly series of shows at O'Connor's Vault, which promise to surprise, delight and inspire!
In an under-the-radar career spanning four decades, Gary has co-produced albums for and written songs with Leon Russell, Nicolette Larson, Maria Muldaur, This Mortal Coil and others. He's toured the US and Europe, with shows at Radio City Music Hall, LA's Universal Amphitheater, and BBC/Scotland. The late 90's found Gary living and working in Nashville as a staff songwriter for Sony/Tree Music which published over 60 of his songs. Ogan is once again calling Portland home these days, where he continues to write, record and perform. In 2006, he was tapped to become drummer for award-winning Nashville songwriter Darrell Scott (Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Robert Plant's Band of Joy), and in 2008, he signed on as producer for a life-altering, two-year project with the great Danny O'Keefe.
"Gary Ogan is a soul man - reminds me of Donald Fagen. His arrangements are distinctive and passionate, and he plays every instrument on the record which reminds me of the solo records by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney. This man needs to be heard." - Brian Ahern - Producer - Emmylou Harris, George Jones
". . . as an artist, you row your own boat in a way that is pleasing and rewarding to the soul. I think you're a great artist and a quality record maker." - Leon Russell
". . . This is evocatively grand material performed on a large scale. ***1/2 - Russell Hill - Maverick Magazine
As Gary puts it, "What Matt and I are doing is providing me a way to get back into playing for my local fans again, and for now, many of you are asking for another solo show, so that's how we'll kick things off. From my first major label single released in 1972, "Portland Rain", to songs from my forthcoming solo project due later this year, I'll be dusting off the old and preparing the new to share with you all.
