SPF's Celebrate Skagit ~ Dinner on the Farm July 21
Skagit Valley is noted for some of the best farmland in the world. Come and enjoy "Celebrate Skagit ~ Dinner on the Farm" to taste and see for yourself the bounty we have to offer.
Join us Saturday, July 21 at 5 pm and enjoy a unique dining experience, featuring fresh, seasonal foods prepared by a guest chef. Experience the agricultural lifestyle and learn about farms, farmers and the importance of preserving Skagit Valley farmland while enjoying a fabulous meal.
Location: The July 21 Dinner on the Farm will take place at Hedlin's Family Farm. Hedlin's has been in operation since 1906 when it was founded by Rasmus Koudal shortly after his arrival from Denmark. The farm is located near the mouth of the Skagit River, on the outskirts of the town of LaConner. While seed crops, primarily beet, spinach, and cabbage seed have been the constant thread over the past 100 years, the farm currently includes a greenhouse transplant and custom transplanting operation for the seed industry, wheat, pickling cucumbers and a fresh market operation which has grown over the last 15 years from another berry and corn stand along the side of the road to a 50-acre market garden where more than 100 different varieties of Certified Organic crops and sprayfree greenhouse produce are grown.
Owned and operated by third generation David Hedlin and Serena Campbell, Hedlin's continues to be a family operation, with sister Mary Hedlin, daugther Lauren Hedlin and nephew Kai Ottesen all working on the farm. Hedlin's Family Farm is committed to the long-term stewardship of our land and waters, the health of our workers, and to growing the highest quality produce the Magic Skagit has to offer.
Chef: Thank you to Nicole Holbert, Chef and Owner of Adrift Restaurant in Anacortes, who is our guest chef for this dinner. Adrift's philosophy is well-known and appreciated: "Food and community are inextricably twined for us, and we need both for complete nourishment. To that end, Adrift strives to use the best quality local ingredients available, in order to feed you and to support our neighbors."
Seating limited to 50 guests at each dinner. $100 per person. (Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable.)
Please plan to dress for all weather conditions and terrain. Galoshes, jeans, and jackets are recommended. Dinners will take place rain or shine. Some areas of the farm may not be handicap accessible. Due to the seasonal nature of our menu, special dietary needs may not be accommodated.
Note to guests: You will enter the farm at the Market Stand at 12050 Chilberg Road in LaConner and follow signs to the dinner location.
Proceeds will support the work of Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland, a grassroots nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to ensure the continued viability of Skagit agriculture through farmland protection, advocacy, research, education and public awareness.
