BAAD!Ass Women 2012: Rhodessa Jones' LIFE ON THE SWERVE
The formidable, award-winning Rhodessa Jones brings her acclaimed solo performance, Life on the Swerve: Observations from that Place Where the World Weeps, to the Bronx. The show's the culmination of years of Jones's solo work as well as her work with incarcerated women, HIV positive women, and disenfranchised populations around the world. Rhodessa will perform excerpts from her acclaimed solo works including Big Butt Girls, Hard-Headed Women, and Deep in the Night. As well, she will unveil material from her new show The Resurrection of She: From Frisco to Soweto. Throughout her performance, Jones infuses stories from the women telling their difficult and true stories of drug addiction, domestic violence, murder, and poverty. By splicing video clips of the real women she has worked with into the live performance Jones makes the characters readily available and relatable, making her message hit even harder.
