From Schtetl to Broadway
From Irving Berlin to Sammy Cahn to Leonard Bernstein and beyond, the Great American Songbook was creatednourished almost exclusivelyby Russian Jewish immigrants and their sons and daughters. This show explores, through song and story, the music of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Leonard Bernstein, and many moreand traces melodic themes back to the music of the schtetls of Eastern Europe. Wesla Whitfield and Mike Greensill are well known as entertainers on both East and West Coast, performing regularly in such prestigious venues as the Algonquin Hotel Oak Room, Metropolitan Room and San Francisco's Rrazz Room. They have appeared often at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Theaters & Davies Symphony Hall, and performed at the Clinton White House.
