41st annual National Jewish Student Journalism Conference
You've waited all year for it. And now it's finally time to...
Register for the 41st annual National Jewish Student Journalism Conference!
Get excited.
-----
May 20-22, 2012 at the NYU Bronfman Center in NYC
Presented by New Voices Magazine (newvoices.org) and the Jewish Student Press Service; sponsored by The Forward (forward.com); and in partnership with The Beacon (thebeaconmag.com)
-----
Q: What is it?
A: The National Jewish Student Journalism Conference is a national gathering for:
-Jewish student journalists (duh) -Jewish college students -Students who are Jewish journalists -Jewish students who write -Student journalists who happen to be Jewish -Whoever else decides to register.
Past speakers have included writers, editors and journalists from every corner of the Jewish world and from the mainstream secular press.
Some of this year's confirmed sessions include:
-A multimedia presentation by the hilarious -- and controversy-inducing -- comic artist Eli Valley (he drew the image on this page)
-A walking tour of landmarks from the old Jewish Lower East Side (including the original Forward building) led by Sam Norich, the publisher of the Forward
-Forward writers Josh Nathan-Kazis and Naomi Zeveloff will talk about what they've learned while reporting "Israel 101," their ongoing series about Jews on campus
We're also going to a comedy club one night -- partially so we can bond, but mostly because we're in New York, so why not?
-----
Q: OK, so how much is it and what do I get?
A: You get: -Two breakfasts (all food will be kosher) -Two lunches -Some other food in between -A goodie bag -Other conference materials -Two and a half days of unbridled fun
And it will only cost you: -$30 if you register by May 5 -$40 if you register after May 5 -$25 if you've contributed to New Voices or one of our partner student publications during the current academic year
It's also $15 extra if you come to the comedy club, Comic Strip Live, with us. Simi Lampert, the editor of The Beacon, picked the club and she goes to them all the time so she knows what she's talking about.
-----
Q: Yeah, but I'm coming in from out of town. Where will I stay?
A: Worry not. Let us know when you register that you're coming from out of town and we'll figure things out. Depending on how many people register, we may get a couple rooms at a hostel.
-----
Q: But what if I have more questions?
A: Then you should email David A.M. Wilensky, the executive director of the Jewish Student Press Service, at david@newvoices.org and ask him your questions. He doesn't bite. Usually.
