The unique high quality cuisine and service at this long established and wonderfully intimate venue is a perfect compliment to the Jazz It Up concert experience. The series continues on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 7pm with the swing and big band sounds of the popular David Aaron Quartet in concert that promises to captivate the audience. When David Aaron started to play clarinet in the late 1940s, he found quickly a new best friend. He was about 11 years old and growing up in Irvington, NJ. "Right away, I could make a sound with it and could play 'Buttons and Bows' by ear," says the Union resident. "It was an incredible feeling and quickly turned into a passion. Now, clarinet reflects my emotions, how I feel at the moment. If I'm happy, I play more fast tunes. If I'm sad, more ballads and blues." Aaron fell in love with swing music in the 1950s while attending Irvington High School. His favorite clarinetists became Benny Goodman whom he heard "numerous times at the Mosque Theatre on Market Street in Newark" and Artie Shaw. "I loved the excitement and creativity," he says. "Goodman had an incredible sound and technique, and was very creative. I loved Shaw for his sound and style, the way he phrased, his command of the instrument." Before long, Aaron was performing his own shows, and 50 years later, he still is. Along with his quartet, he will be playing his robust, swing-style clarinet at the Jazz It Up @ The Office concert in Westfield, NJ. For many years, Aaron, who also held down a day job in advertising until 2007, played a variety of commercial music. But since 1980, he has focused on swing. The clarinetist, who occasionally leads a big band, is excited about some of the material he'll likely play at the upcoming Jazz It Up event. The speedy numbers might include "Avalon" or "After You've Gone." "Playing at incredible speeds is exciting it's hot, and never boring to me," he says. For medium tempos, Aaron might choose "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" or "On the Sunny Side of the Street" "Those are nice tunes played at a nice tempo," he said. The ballads might include "If I Had You" and "It Had to Be You." A sideline to Aaron's performing has been educational programs on music that he has conducted over the years. "I love to speak in front of people, get them involved, hear their stories," he says. Given his life in music, Aaron considers himself a "very lucky man." "If I had to do it over again, I'd do it the same way," he says. "My life's been heaven-sent." The management and staff at The Office strive to make sure that every visit is better than the time before. The venue offers the perfect ambience for a relaxing monthly evening of listening pleasure coupled with good food and drink. Delicious cuisine and a varied selection of fine wines and more than 60 brands of craft centric specialty beers helps to create a fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone's enjoyment. Good music, Good food, Good friends, Good times at Jazz It Up!
