Online Marketing Law for Filmmakers
Social media and online marketing have been with us for almost a decade, but you'd think that websites and online marketers were still cowboys in the Wild Wild West. The FTC and State attorneys general are on the lookout for websites that fail to comply with sweepstakes and contest laws and laws related to the collection of personal information. In addition, websites are soliciting user-generated content that can subject them to infringement, defamation and other claims unless they set up their sites in specific ways to gain legal immunity. This very practical workshop will include the basics of how to conduct sweepstakes an contests legally; how to collect User Generated Content without being subjected to claims of copyright infringement, defamation and other claims; and a general overview of other key issues related to social media and online marketing, including collection of personally identifiable information, compliance with the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act (aka the CAN SPAM Act), compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (aka COPPA), as well as compliance with the promotional guidelines of various social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter.
