Let's Talk Meat
Grass Fed... Grain Finished... Organic... Free Range... Heritage Breed... Humane... Sustainable... Aaaaigh!! Confused about meat production these days? Us too! Personally, it sometimes feels so complicated to go shopping for protein sources that we throw up our hands, park the grocery cart, and head to a local restaurant where those decisions are blissfully made for us.
If this conundrum sounds familiar, plan to join Slow Food East Bay at Arbor Cafe on Telegraph Avenue in Temescal on Wednesday, March 21st at 7pm for a panel discussion about livestock raising and processing practices and a breakdown of the various terms that are tossed around and what they really mean (or don't mean) We'll wade through all the options and hopefully give you what you need to take back control of your food and become a truly educated consumer.
We have an assorted group of folks who will be sharing their opinions (however intense!) about how your meat should be grown and treated and the various local choices you have for purchasing it for home consumption. Joining us will be representatives from The Local Butcher Shop, Marin Sun Farms, Pastoral Plate, Highland Hills Farm, Star Meats and the Bay Area Meat CSA, among others. We can guarantee a lively debate and plenty of time for open conversation, so come armed with your questions.
Cost to attend will be a $5 donation to Slow Food East Bay, payable via cash or check at the door. Please reserve your spots today!
