Macbeth
Written over 400 years ago, William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of his shortest works, but arguably the bloodiest. Macbeth, Thane of Glamis is returning victorious from a war with Banquo, when they come upon three witches. Haling Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, Cawdor and "king hereafter," Macbeth receives the prophecy that will forever change his life. When Lady Macbeth hears these prophecies, she determines that the witches words will ring trueif not by fate's hands, then by her husband's or her own. "The feeling of terror that accompanies all of the grisly acts of 'Macbeth' comes not from the shock value of gore or blood on stage; it comes from the sociopolitical weight of the acts themselves in concert with the boundless ambition of the characters who perform them," said Director Nathan Thurman. Plotting and assassination, guilt and suspicion, ghosts and witches--Macbeth is a timeless, human story of ambition.
